We are a group of people who have all learnt some French in the past and want to continue improving our French conversation skills. We meet on Tuesday mornings, every two weeks, for about 2 hours in someone’s home and at most sessions we are fortunate to have a fluent French speaker to help us, especially with pronunciation and grammar. The size of the group is limited by the need to meet in our homes and to give enough time for everyone to fully participate, so unfortunately we are unable to accept new members at present.
For homework, we may prepare and then talk about a topic eg a holiday in our own words, with minimal use of notes. We are improving our skills in questioning others. We occasionally use the BBC book “The French Experience 2” .We share other on-line resources with others.
At the meeting we may have pronunciation practice and still occasionally play a game to help with numbers or letters . We often study a French article on a topical subject. In addition, the leader may read out a short article from a book or French magazine and we then answer questions about it. This is helping to develop our ‘Listening & Comprehension’ skills.
We also meet socially, often at a French restaurant. We have also had Trips to France- Paris and Calais and Lille via Eurostar or the Ferry.
