We have been up and running since March 2012 with a current membership of 10 active members.  We would welcome a few more.  We meet in members' houses as long as they are able and happy to accommodate us, on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 2.15 to 4.30pm.  We don't meet in August.

None of us are professional psychologists though some members have some experience or have done courses in aspects of psychology.  We do not follow a course pattern but rather all members suggest topics out of which we construct a 6 month programme.  One or two members undertake investigation/research on the topic and then introduce it at the meeting.  Other members may or may not do some of their own research prior to meetings, depending on their level of interest and time availability.  This has resulted in an eclectic mix of subjects, including: attachment and bonding in children; learning difficulties; psychology of racism; autism; intelligence and IQ tests; memory and how it works; comparative psychology - how and why animals help us; speaker from Mind; psychological work in the prison service - speaker.

Upcoming topics include the influence of the internet on children's and young people's development; body dismorphia and anorexia; psychology of religion.

We may consider changing the format and topic selection to get a bit more depth in some of our discussions when we think about future topics - but it will be very much up to the group as a whole, and we want to have the sort of approach that most people are comfortable with.
