The parish church is often the oldest building in a locality and can provide clues as to the social changes within, and development of the area in which it is situated. There is much social and political history to be learned from visiting them.

The Visiting Churches Group aims to pool information about churches of architectural, historical or other interest. The member who identifies a suitable building then organises a Group visit (liaising with the church, if necessary, and providing travel instructions and arranging car pooling if public transport is not available).

To ensure that each visit is an enjoyable social experience, we try to meet up for coffee close to the church to be visited and the organiser for the day arranges for lunch to be taken together.

The Group has traditionally arranged visits on the second Thursday of each month but we did visit Rochester Cathedral on a Saturday and we can be flexible about this. The Group would also be open to including other buildings and sites of significance to the religious life of this country over the centuries.
