This group is for people who are used to or would like to try longer walks, starting at at 10.00am and finishing between 3pm-4.30pm. Our walks range from 10-15 miles, occasionally longer in the summer months, but there is the possibility of adjusting the length to suit the members. They are varied and can start as far away as Wendover and the Chilterns or into London, or as close as St Albans and Nomansland.  We have a couple of drink stops and a picnic lunch stop but occasionally we may be near a pub so can buy a drink and use toilet facilities. Unfortunately we do not have time to have a pub meal.

It is not a route march – we aim to make it a pleasure but obviously we cannot guarantee the weather! The pace is about 2.5-3 miles an hour but obviously depends on the terrain, weather and group in the day.  We have about 40 members but the average for a walk is between 10 and 15.

Leaders send out details of each walk about 2 weeks beforehand. It is not assumed that everyone in the group will lead a walk but new offers to lead are always welcome. When the start is further away we try to share lifts.

On a recent walk on a lovely sunny day we walked 10 miles over the Chilterns. Fourteen of us set from Coombe Hill car park where we admired the monument and followed the Ridgeway at different points on the walk. We walked through many woods, climbed a few hills and climbed down a rather steep descent! We all survived. We had some amazing views particularly where we stopped for lunch and where this photo was taken. We also had a view across to Chequers but were not asked to tea! However our bonus was a farm shop towards the end of the walk which served tea and cakes where we were able to sit and enjoy. This was probably one of the harder walks we have done so don't be deterred. If you are reasonably fit and are usually free on the 4th Friday come and join us.

New members are welcome.  If you would would like to come on one or two of our walks as a guest before deciding whether to join, or just want to ask questions, please contact the Organiser via the above link.
