The next meeting is on Monday 8th June 2026.
Meetings are on the second Monday of the month, October - June inclusive with a recess over the summer.
Enjoy writing about your experiences and then sharing them in good company.
We meet at The Speckled Hen Pub-Restaurant, Hatfield Rd, St Albans.
Each month most members write a small piece that shares experiences from life. These are circulated before the meeting. These pieces lead to enjoyable and interesting discussions and questions, often based on jogged memories.
A memoir is normally taken to be any nonfiction narrative writing based in the author's personal memories or records. So, it includes autobiographies but also extends to such things as personal accounts of other people and organisations.
The aim of this group is to help its members write memoirs. It aims to cover all aspects of the process from conception to publication – although many memoirs are written for private consumption with no intention of publication.
Common reasons for writing memoirs range for an entirely private and personal reflection and contemplation through the desire to share experiences with others to a compelling desire to put the record straight and reveal the truth about what actually happened.
You can share and divulge as little as much as you wish in these meetings but can we all please agree that anything divulged within the group is treated in confidence. The members promise to be supportive and non-judgemental.
